In my case, I’m able to reproduce the problem on two different MBP laptops, both running macOS Catalina 10.15.5, with two different XBO controllers, both with firmware version. The controller functionality (or lack thereof) can also be handily tested by using this web utility: (this site seems to work best in Chrome). The left/right triggers are supposed to only move the Z axis, whereas the right stick is supposed to only move the X and Y rotation. And if you move the right stick up and down, it moves on the X axis. Then, slowly squeeze the right trigger, and notice how the "right stick" is moving on the Y axis. One example: run Steam in Big Picture Mode (on your Mac), then go to Settings - Controller Settings - Xbox One Controller (under Detected Controllers) - Calibrate. Specifically, a subset of both the right trigger and right analog stick functions “overlap,” completely breaking functionality.

Once you’ve fixed the problem, even when you power the Mac down and switch off the controller, you shouldn’t need to go through the process again. If it doesn’t work for you, unpair the controller in the Mac’s Bluetooth settings, go back to step 1 and try again.

Until now.Įven when Apple recently updated macOS 11 to support the new Xbox Series X/S controllers, it didn’t solve the problem. The same happened when I connected via USB cable.Ĭould I find a solution? Could I hell. The A button was mapped to B, for example, and other control were out of whack.
